Title: Niacin overdose possibilities?
Description: Niacin

kdarr - February 6, 2007 06:06 PM (GMT)
My fiance is has been in sauna for almost 3 weeks now and they have him up to 2000-2500mg of niacin every day. His kidneys have been hurting him, lose of appetite, headaches (he never gets them) and he is in a horrible depression. After 1 week he was feeling alot better but they continue to increase his doses. I read that niacin can cause liver, kidney and even optical damage (loss of sight!) but after complaining and asking for a doctor's appointment for a week they finally took him. His sugar levels are over 110 (way up from when they admitted him to Stone Hawk) and he has high protein levels and yet the doctor said he was fine to continue. He said the Narconon pays this doctor (who is a scientologist) large amounts of money to oversee the patients there and that he doesn't trust his judgement.

For 2 days now he has been so depressed he has talked about how he thinks that suicide would be a way out.....as he just can't deal with the emotional torture they give him along with the disrespect and attitude they take (they just don't really care and there is no one on one counseling like they promised us)

Does anyone know more about this niacin treatment or have any suggestions?

Thanks!

My daughter is in Battle Creek and is sick, they finally took her to a local emergency room. My wife really pushed them to get them to take her. She recieved breathing treatments because she has developed ashma. We are very disturbed by what has been happening there. I will post more later after I talk with my daughter. I know some how crack got in the place. I called with my concerns and they assured me that they had things under control. Then it was rumored that some of the staff was released, the guy who did the sales job on my wife, for alcohol in the staff area. I have contacted doctors who have told me that my daughters condition and the sauna would not be a good combination. My daughter said that they told her the sauna would heal her lung complications. My wife told her to refuse to go in the sauna. I am not at all happy, they told my wife that they were in no uncertain terms associated with Scientology. They totally miss represented themselves. I am not the type to take a hosing lightly.

dear sir,

ask your daughter to have them give her a copy of the release she signed before she went into the sauna (you didnt get this when you dropped her off) it say and im paraphazing that they do not contend that there is any medical or physical advantages to the sauna and it also relieves them of any liability.

ps get ready for a big hospital bill from that er mine were $1800 plus the 5 mile $700 dollar ambulance ride. goood luck

been there and done this

The niacin and the sauna procedures were brutal. The niacin nearly throws your body into shock, and nearly any side effect or reaction is attributed to "restimulation".

If you all want to really help your loved ones, continue to encourage that they get connected with local recovery groups in their community. And please don't listen to anything else that The Church of Scientology has to say about addiction treatment. THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!
