Title: Utah and the Purification Rundown
Description: Taxpayers are funding this dubious detox

" A controversial Church of Scientology treatment used on World Trade Center emergency responders is being used in Utah to "detoxify" cops who raided methamphetamine labs in the 1980s and 1990s."

How many lies can you spot in this article?

My only beef with these types of undercover Scientology projects is the claim that they are secular. This is the same claim that Narconon made, yet there were Scientology dictionaries and tech libraries scattered throughout the facility. Remember... if it looks like a duck, with a feathers and webbed feet... its a duck.

Now I was under the impression that L. Ron Hubbards theory on residues being lodged in fatty metabolites was not validated by the scientific community... in fact that it had been completely disproven. But it seems as though people still say the "purif" or the "new life detoxification program" or the "sauna rundown" still makes them feel better. Go figure.

I'll tell you this much... it won't keep you sober!

:D

Okay... so after reading my last post, I realized that I have more beefs with undercover Scientology projects than just the one I mentioned above (ie., that they are secular).... ;) :P

mr.mac... feeling like no one reads his posts anyway...

Nonsense. Of course people read your posts!

The thing about all this is, officials are relying on anecdotes from people who have gone through this.

After poisoning yourself and sweating in a sauna, of COURSE you're going to feel "better" when you stop. Kind of like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer. I bet you could get plenty of testimonials attesting to how much better one feels when you stop.

It bothers me that officials aren't looking at the very basic science here.
It bothers me that they're ignoring the fact that the Purif does nothing and is a "spiritual tool." That is according to Scientology's own "scriptures."

But mostly, what bothers me is the argument "Nobody else is addressing this problem, at least it's *something.*

Yeah. So is chugging apricot pits to cure cancer. It doesn't work, but "at least it's something."

I am amazed that Utah taxpayers aren't opposing this waste of public money in force.

Yes... You should have seen how "students" would "EP" or "End Phenomenon", clearly a Scientology reference, from the sauna program. An EP would occur when the student reported feeling better and more clear. The student would be prohibited from moving forward with the program until an EP was reported and attested to (yet another Scientology reference). Typically this would occur when the niacin level was upward near 2500mg. It was insane. Thay would dose you up on powder nicain... you would have the reaction... sit in the sauna for 4-5 hours a day with 15-20 min. breaks and trip out. I was always convinced that the experineces people were having, including my own, was the result of the niacin and the exposure to the high temperatures for such long periods. And of course I always knew that sauna treatments have been used for centuries therapeutically.

;)
