I received this today:

COPY OF COMPLAINT TO CA ATTORNEY GENERAL

Comment Or Question Message: I sent my son to Newport Beach for
heroin addiction the first week of
January to Orange Cuounty detox for
two weeks, he was then to transfer
to Narconon. I prepaid $3000 for
the detox and $27000 for Narconon in
December. First I'd like you to understand I located them on the internet and was impressed by their
ads and supposed success rate. I, however, received no paperwork OF ANY KIND, not even a receipt for my payments, which by the way, I had to "fax" a $27000 check to them.
This said, they transported my son from the detox to Narconon on weds Jan 17th.
My son called me, they wanted him to
sign the intake papers that read that
the fee was non-refundable $27000. This concerned me as my son is 22 years old and could walk out the next day. I had him put the Narconon employee on the phone who stated they had a 'prorated refund policy but they couldn't put it in the
legal papers. I was immediately suspicious. I called the Narconon employee who 'sold' me on their program and was told there was no refund policy.
I called my son back and told them to
take him back to detox. He NEVER signed
the contract or spent a night at their
facility. I have been trying since Jan 18th to get a refund of my $27000 and a bill for the detox center to submit to
my insurance company. Again, I NEVER
received any type of paperwork from them. I have called multiple times and
was finally told on Feb 5th I'd have my
refund in two to three weeks. Didnt receive it and raised such a fuss I was
told March 3rd my refund was approved
(although I was previously told on
Feb 5th I'd have it in 2-3 weeks).
I've received nothing and now they won't
return my calls. I am in the process
of hiring an attorney to 1.get my refund 2. the detox center bill to submit to my insurance company 3.
interest on the money 3. compensation
for emotional duress at having to put up
with such an unscrupulous company while
going through the pain of having a drug
addicted son. In addition I found out at
a later date that the detox facility,
that I thought was independent or Narconon is actually contracted by them
and that Narconon has their own physician. They took my son off all meds
four days prior to his intake at Narconon. He was having such a hard time
in detox that the staff actually snuck him additional medication and when I spoke to them after my son left they told me he was too heavy of a user for
Narconon. His new physician here has
said the same thing. I am furious that
Narconon, and their "physician" would
admit my son to a facility that may
have killed him, they were only interested in the money.
Also their ads state they are covered by
most insurance companies, which is absolutely NOT true. I contacted Blue
Shield of California and they won't cover them, so who will? I had a friend call and ask about their insurance billing, they said 'most reputable
facilities don't accept insurance as the
primary" What? Just the opposite.
Everthing they promise is verbal, NOTHING is given to you in writing. Also
NOWHERE in their ads to they state they
are affiliated with the Church of
Scientology or that insurance doesnt cover them as they are not a medical facility.
