I was looking through all the means to file complaints with the Michigan Board of Health. As you review the topics, there is one devoted to Substance Abuse Licensing. This link takes you to a long list of forms including one regarding "Model Recipient Rights" and "Recipient Rights Complaint Form" Here is a link to get you closer:

http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-...0419---,00.html

Some interesting rights spelled out in the "Model Rights" include:

"A program staff member shall not physcially or mentally abuse or neglect or sexually abuse a recipient..."

"A recipient shall have the benefits, side effects, and risks associated with the use of any drugs fully explained in language which is understood by the recipient"

"A recipient has the right to deposit money....in an account with a commercial financial institution. A recipient has the right to receive all money or other belongings held for him or her by the program within 24 hours of discsharge"

Please take the time to look and this information and file appropriate complaints. The Michigan Legislature has provided some ways to protect patients rights specifically related to substance abuse facilities. Please exercise your rights to help yourself and others. Good Luck

worriedmom,
You are so very right.

Rights violation is a big thing. The state will investigate within 72 hours for
complaints of rights violation. It's mandated by the Feral Government so the state can get into trouble if they don't. A confirmed case of abuse, neglect or exploitation is a very bad thing. If a facility gets a few of these they can be shut down. Also if the case is confirmed by the state, you have a very good chance of winning a civil or tort claim in court.
During the state investigation you will be interviewed by the state.

The stories I have read, there is absolutely, without a doubt violations of people rights.
